Terms of Service
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, linking a Ring account, or otherwise using StrangerAIert ("the service", "we", "our"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Description of Service
StrangerAIert is a third-party application that integrates with Ring cameras to provide scheduled daily visit reports. The service is explicitly not designed as a real-time alerting system. Specifically, StrangerAIert provides:
- A consolidated dashboard of motion events from your Ring cameras, organized as a daily visit report with a 4-week calendar view and per-day visitor lists grouped into Watchlist, New Today, and Returning Visitors categories.
- Face detection and face recognition performed on the camera footage as a scheduled batch (once per hour at the top of the hour), used to group visits of the same person within your account. A visit captured between hourly marks does not appear on the dashboard until the next analysis run.
- Three scheduled push notifications per day (08:00, 18:00, 23:00 in your local time zone), each summarizing visitor counts (Watchlist / first-time / returning) for the immediately preceding time window — overnight, daytime, or evening. Full visitor details are shown only on the dashboard.
- Tools to register people as Familiar (hidden from the report by default) or Watchlist (always featured in the report), and automatic suggestions for unregistered visitors who appear repeatedly.
- Automatic demotion of people you have repeatedly ignored — if you do not open a person's detail card across multiple visit days, that person is moved into the report's "Show more" bucket without any manual configuration. If a demoted person continues to visit, the People tab auto-surfaces them in the Frequently Visitors section for one-tap re-registration.
- Per-camera analysis controls and a camera-grouping feature that lets you mark multiple cameras as watching the same area so a person seen on one camera is recognized as the same person on the other.
StrangerAIert is an independent application and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Ring or Amazon.
3. Account Registration
- You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction.
- You must provide accurate information and keep your password confidential.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
- You must not create an account using someone else's Ring credentials or email.
4. Data Processing, AI Models, and Privacy
StrangerAIert processes your camera footage to detect faces, recognize repeat visitors, and produce a daily visit report. The full description of what data is collected, why, how it is stored, how long it is retained, your rights, and how to opt out is contained in our Privacy Policy. By using the service you agree to that processing as described.
Key commitments incorporated by reference from the Privacy Policy:
- We do not use your data to train shared AI models (Privacy Policy Section 4).
- Human review of your data does not occur during normal operation (Privacy Policy Section 5).
- You can review and delete your data, and opt out of analysis or notifications, from Settings (Privacy Policy Section 6 and Section 8).
- You can submit a Data Subject Access / deletion request by email (Privacy Policy Section 7).
- Our sub-processors are disclosed in Privacy Policy Section 9.
- Material changes to AI capabilities are announced as described in Privacy Policy Section 12.
5. Ring Account Authorization
StrangerAIert uses Ring's official OAuth flow to connect to your cameras. By linking your Ring account, you authorize StrangerAIert to receive an access token from Ring and to call Ring's partner API on your behalf for the purposes described in the Privacy Policy. We never receive your Ring password. You may revoke the link at any time from StrangerAIert Settings or from the Ring app; revocation stops future data collection and deletes the stored tokens.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use StrangerAIert for any unlawful purpose or in a way that violates the rights of others.
- Monitor or record people in circumstances where applicable law requires their consent and such consent has not been obtained (see Section 7).
- Attempt to access another user's account, data, or face records.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code or models from the service, except where applicable law expressly permits.
- Disrupt or overload the service, its infrastructure, or any third-party API the service relies on (including Ring).
- Resell or rebrand the service without our written permission.
7. Surveillance, Biometric, and Privacy Laws — Your Responsibility
Examples of areas where the operator of a camera (you, not StrangerAIert) typically bears legal responsibility:
- Posting signs informing visitors that recording is in progress.
- Obtaining consent before applying biometric/face recognition to non-household members, where local law requires it (for example, the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act and similar statutes).
- Limiting camera coverage to areas you own or have permission to monitor.
- Recording audio only where law allows.
StrangerAIert provides the technical tools to summarize what your cameras already see; it does not determine where your cameras may legally point or whom they may legally record.
8. Subscription and Billing
StrangerAIert may offer free and paid tiers. Pricing, included features, and limits are described in the app. If we change pricing for a paid plan, we will provide at least 30 days' advance notice via email or in-app. You may cancel a paid subscription at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
9. Service Availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. StrangerAIert relies on third-party services (including Ring's API and our hosting providers). Outages or changes in those services may cause StrangerAIert to be partially or fully unavailable. We are not liable for losses caused by such outages.
10. Intellectual Property
The StrangerAIert software, design, and trademarks are owned by us. The motion events, media, face data, and labels associated with your account remain yours, subject to the licenses you grant us in the Privacy Policy to operate the service for you. Ring and related marks are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, StrangerAIert, its operators, and its providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or use, arising out of or in connection with the service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the service shall not exceed the amount you paid to StrangerAIert in the 12 months preceding the claim, or USD 50 if you have not paid anything.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. Face recognition is probabilistic and can produce false matches or missed matches; do not rely on it for safety-critical decisions.
13. Termination
You may stop using StrangerAIert at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, abuse the service, or expose the service to legal risk. Upon termination, your data is deleted according to the Privacy Policy.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may modify these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes will be announced via an in-app notice or email. Continued use of the service after the effective date of the change constitutes acceptance.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which StrangerAIert is operated, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Disputes shall be brought in the courts of that jurisdiction unless otherwise required by mandatory law applicable to you as a consumer.
